My un-love letter to Twitter

How do I describe my thoughts about Twitter?? I feel like Twitter is like the friend that I tell myself I should probably be in a relationship with because they have so many great qualities but I just can't seem to find the passion for.
List of pros for Tweeting:
  • It gives me a chance to be witty
  • I have to spend almost NO time messing with it
  • It connects me with loads of friends
  • Its super easy to use
  • I keeps me updated on peoples thoughts
List of cons for Tweeting:
  • I can do all of the list of pros through Facebook and save myself the trouble of Tweeting
I want to love you Twitter, I really do! But I'm sorry, I just don't feel like we will ever have a relationship.

Regardless I did manage to find a site that is pretty funny when I was thinking about one of my favorite sites www.textsfromlastnight.com. I figured if there was a texts from last night then surely there should be a tweets from last night!!! Viola.... Tweets from last night everybody! At least now I can get a little enjoyment out of a site that I NEVER use!

Diggin on Digg

Before my Comm 630 Media and Technology Literacy class I had NEVER heard of this site called Digg. And I have to admit when I first looked at it my eyes glazed over and I started thinking about how much food I would get to eat that day if I ran 6 miles (a typical place for my mind to wander). Typically this would have been more than enough to allow my mind to block out ever having heard of this news site BUT my hand was forced to re-type those 4 letters for class and let me tell you... I am glad it was.

Yesterday I "dugg" my first stories ever and now I am hooked on this wonderful little site. The stories that pop up on the homescreen have already been sifted through and essentially been pre-approved by the news viewing community. I have yet to "bury" a story but that will be soon to follow I am sure!

My diggs for today you ask???
drumroll please.......

YouTube's future in sports broadcasting looking bright

The New York Times posted an article in March 2010 regarding YouTube's new contract to broadcast India's premier cricket league live. According to the article, this is the first time YouTube has gotten a contract to have live streaming of any sporting event. I am hoping that this new deal is a COMPLETE success because I love watching sports, particularly soccer, and am always trying to find live streaming of college soccer games. Typically, many of the major NCAA Division I college soccer programs will have live streaming of playoff games through their official university website. The issues I have with these live streams are:
  1. The quality of the video is poor
  2. The streaming pauses a LOT
  3. They aren't always free
If YouTube can solve these issues and prove that their streaming can create as much revenue as traditional broadcasting then I think this is they way of the future for sports broadcasting. If my favorite soccer team is playing I want the ease of being able to search for the game when and where I want and be able to pause it and restart it as it fits into my schedule. Let's here it for YouTube!
